Women of Vision Houston

A World Vision Program

Who We Are

Mission Statement
Women of Vision exists to educate and motivate women to share their faith and resources and to bring tangible evidence of Christ’s love to empower impoverished, oppressed, and persecuted women and their families throughout the world.

  • We seek to educate and motivate women to take this vision to their communities and create their own chapters of Women of Vision.
  • Our service is to assist spiritually, economically, and educationally impoverished women and their families.
  • Our desire is to foster stable, healthy family relationships.

Vision Statement
We envision the gathering of Christian women who respond to God’s call to help women and their families who struggle to meet basic daily needs.

We dream of a means for women to help women and their families by a worldwide uniting of resources through which we can learn from and benefit each other.

Our Women of Vision Houston Chapter, founded in November 2003, is a group of approximately 30 Christian women with different backgrounds, interests and experiences, but we all share a vision around God's works through human hands and hearts.  We welcome new members into our group and would like to share with you a little about our current leadership:

Bios

  • Anne G. is a psychotherapist, consultant, author of several books, and was a featured speaker on "Oprah".   Anne has completed training with Shalem Institute as a group spiritual director and offers workshops and retreats on contemplative spirituality.  Anne is a long-time leader of Amistad Mission, which serves the poor in Bolivia, offering medical and community services in a remote rural village and a home for over 90 abandoned children in Cochabamba.  In the summer of 2004, Anne climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with her nineteen-year-old son.
  • Barbara C. is married, with three children.  She is a teacher and musician, and a Stephen Minister for her church.  She teaches English as a second language to immigrant Hispanic women through Martha's Way, the domestic project of Women of Vision Houston.  Barbara and her family sponsor a World Vision child in El Salvador.
  • Cathryn S. has served as a Trustee and/or active volunteer for numerous Houston non-profit organizations.  Her particular focus has been on local and international HIV/AIDS issues, assistance to the poor and under served, and non-profit board excellence.  In addition to her leadership role in Houston Women of Vision, Cathryn is very active with the Houston Public Library, the Houston Zoo, and  Rice University.  With degrees from Rice and Harvard, Cathryn's professional career was in international finance; she is married with two teen sons.
  • Christi M., a native Houstonian, attended Washington and Lee University and earned her MBA from Rice.  She is an energy business professional who believes strongly in giving back to the community through voluntarism.  Her volunteer activities have included being the National Director of the National Association of Women MBAs, a leader of Carousel (Young Friends of Texas Children’s Cancer Center), a teacher for Junior Achievement, a member of the Junior League of Houston, and a mentor for Kids Hope USA.   In addition to work and volunteer activities, she loves to travel and is an avid photographer.  Christi is married to a very patient husband who strongly supports all of her extracurricular activities.

  • Dee Ann P. is a native Houstonian (and former Kilgore Rangerette!) who has owned her own professional service business for 20 years.  Ten years ago she reconnected with a childhood interest in photography, and through extensive study and field experience on photo expeditions since then, has become an award-winning wildlife photographer.  She has traveled in diverse habitats in Africa, Alaska, The Arctic and India, and her creative talent has been an enormous blessing to the Houston WOV chapter.

  • Laura H. moved to Houston three years ago and is married with a year-old son. She is a lifelong volunteer, who served the homeless and home-bound in her native Atlanta.  Laura has worked as a teacher, on staff at Teach For America, as well as a recruiter for a software company providing solutions to governments; she now works in fund raising for a  Houston not-for-profit providing low-income housing.  A graduate of both Middlebury College and the University of Georgia, she understands the important role education plays in expanding life choices for women everywhere.

  • Laureen S. is a career international banker and proficient in Spanish.  Also a Sunday School teacher for children and adults, and confirmation class leader, we can confirm Laureen's claim that she is married to an adorable husband and raising their 15-year old son with the loving embrace of God's grace.  We cannot confirm that Laureen will ever succeed in her goal of doing an independent handstand in yoga class.
